Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Talkradio.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
TALKRADIO: My name is Alex and I’m the only member in “Talkradio”. I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I write all the music and lyrics as well as play all the instruments and sing all the vocals. I also create all the album/CD artwork. Although I was learning drumming as a teenager, music was not originally my first choice. I started as an actor at the age of 12. I did quite a bit of theatre, TV and even a film over a period of 5 years. I began singing at the age of 18 and began formal singing lessons when I was 20. I started this project back in 1998 and originally there were two of us. I’ve been doing this alone since 2006.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
TALKRADIO: My main influences are 90’s rock bands, as well as some 70’s and 60’s stuff. Groups that have inspired me throughout my life include Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age, Placebo, Radiohead, Powderfinger, The Beatles, The Eagles, The Doobie Brothers and even Iron Maiden.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
TALKRADIO: My latest album is called “Choose”. It’s the second album on which I play all the instruments myself (except bass) as well as sing all the vocals. The first was “Something From Nothing”. For the last 20 years, popular music has sounded so electronic. Even stuff that’s released as “rock” music is auto-tuned like crazy and sounds like something done by AI. If you are also completely sick of how music has been sounding for some time now, I’m hoping you will find something you like on this album, as well as my previous albums.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
TALKRADIO: Sadly, given I do this alone, Talkradio doesn’t go live. I gig in other projects to get my live show fix.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
TALKRADIO: As long as the ideas keep coming, I will keep writing and recording. At the moment, I’m in the middle of writing my next release. I’ve decided it’s no longer worth doing whole albums, though. It’s not really easy doing this when you have a day job and it’s also expensive. Once I’ve finished 5 songs, I will be back in the studio. I would say that will be in 2025.
