Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Martin Kelly and Kevin Kelly of Movment.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
MARTIN: We have been writing and recording music, with others, since the early 90s. Our first band, Raw Novembre, released 3 albums and an EP and some singles. We played lots of gigs. But we always had a side project, Movment, which Kevin and I used to write music for ourselves. This is now our main musical outlet.
KEVIN: It was about 2008 when we began to record songs properly as Movment, and our first album as Movment, “Broken Down,” was released in 2012. We have since released 2 more albums, “Transformation,” and “Reinvention,” and an EP “Red Death Sessions.” And we are working on our 4th album at the moment.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
MARTIN: I grew up with Iron Maiden, Nine Inch Nails and New Model Army. I’m currently listening to Ghost and Tom Waits. But I listen to lots more music across multiple genres.
KEVIN: My first band was Joy Division. But I also like The Pixies, Queens of the Stone Age and the Jesus and Mary Chain. I listen to lots of music and I’m currently listening to The Hives (great new album), The Skids and Green On Red. As Martin said, we listen to lots of different types of music, old and new. And I go to lots of gigs. I’m going to see The Rezillos in 10 days, and also The Stranglers and The Jesus and Mary Chain next month.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
MARTIN: We have just released a new album, “Reinvention,” via Epictronic. And the first single, “I Believe In Noise,” has proved to be popular. If you like darkwave, indie rock, then this could be for you.
KEVIN: Two other singles from the album “Reinvention” are “Crawl Back Inside” and “Existence.” We are a rock band with synths and electronics, which add to the atmosphere of our songs. The album has 10 strong tracks and we feel it is our best material to date. We will release another song from the album, “Don’t Let Go,” in 4 or 5 weeks. If you like deep thoughts on life and death and living, and electronic spiked rock music, then we might be the band for you.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
MARTIN: Currently we haven’t any gigs lined up, but that may change. We have played the Electric Picnic Festival in Ireland recently. Our shows include a selection of Movment songs and some songs from our first band, Raw Novembre.
KEVIN: I would see recordings and live performances as two different channels of expression. What we do in the studio is
designed for listening at home, on the road, on headphones, or at a club. But live performances offer a means to connect directly with people in a room, in a tent, or in a field. So, we will alter our songs for live gigs, and make them work better in different situations. I’d say audiences can expect a fiery intense live rock show when they see us.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
MARTIN: At the moment we are writing lots of songs, so I can see us releasing lots of new songs (singles/EPs/Albums) over the next 5 years.
KEVIN: We are experimenting with songwriting, with synthesizers and with sounds. It is an exciting time if you are creating music as there are lots of ways of doing this now. So, the passion and motivation and buzz are still there, and hopefully we can write and record and release 3 or 4 albums over the next 5 years.
