Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Ultimatium.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
ULTIMATIUM: We’re Ultimatium, from Finland and we play progpower. Band was founded in 2001 by Matti Pulkkinen, as a solo project to showcase his keyboarding. Over the years Ultimatium formed into a real band, and has since published four full length albums, last one called “Virtuality”, an epic progpower opera featuring five lead vocalists.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
ULTIMATIUM: We draw influences from classic power, symphonic, and progressive metal, Stratovarius, Dream Theater, Ayreon, Rainbow, to name a few.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
ULTIMATIUM: Virtuality, from late 2020. It’s our most massive album yet, with five lead vocalists telling a story of near future virtual world gaming episode. With length just over 65 mins, progpower fans should really check it out, since it’s a unique combination of power & prog. Especially if you’re into Ayreon & Avantasia and that sort of stuff.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
ULTIMATIUM: That we’re not there 😀 Before Virtuality was made, we kind of decided to stop pursuing live shows, since it was hindering our efforts of making absolutely epic albums.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
ULTIMATIUM: We have released our fifth album 😀 Nah, seriously, probably we’re doing our sixth at the time. We’re notoriously slow in making new albums.
