Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Q&A With Misery Lane

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have a Q&A with Misery Lane.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

MISERY LANE: Misery Lane started as an idea and has grown to be so much more. We are a multi-genre metal band that use dark and melodic rhythms with aggressive and expansive drumbeats to cross the boundaries of labels and open the door to a new musical experience.

Founded in October of 2020, Misery Lane is a rising star in the Michigan metal community and surrounding states. Catching the eye of multiple promoters after we launched, Misery Lane secured shows in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan. We pride ourselves on our ability to deliver powerful and explosive live performances.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

MISERY LANE: The members of the band have such an eclectic cadre of influences that’s it hard to just name a few. It is that plethora of influences that we draw our inspiration for our own music. Every one of our songs is unique so in one you might hear some nu metal influences. On another you might hear some country influence and yet on another there might be a blues feel. We dare to be different.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

MISERY LANE: Our latest album is untitled but because it features a red balloon on the cover it has become the “Red Balloon” album like Metallica’s Black Album. There is a song on the album titled “Red Balloon” hence the balloon. The song came from a poem I wrote for my wife from the point of view of Pennywise the clown. My wife is a horror nerd. The idea was what if Pennywise fell in love and instead of flowers he gave one red balloon. The album was built around that. The album is nothing like the fans have heard before. We went outside the box of expectations and brought some new and exciting sounds and arrangements to grab the listener and lock them in. There is something for everyone.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

MISERY LANE: People can expect not to see three guys standing on stage staring at our instruments like Beatles. We are there to entertain, and put on a show. Too often local and lesser-known bands are so afraid to make a mistake they stand there and stare at their instruments instead of entertaining the crowd. If people wanted to just hear music, they could listen to the jukebox.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

MISERY LANE: I’d like to be to the point that we can do this as our primary source of income. We don’t need to be rockstars but make enough to pay the bills doing what we love sounds like a great thing to us!!!
