A new GoFundMe campaign has been launched for Bad Brains’ Paul “H.R.” Hudson amid his ongoing health struggles. For those unaware, the frontman has been suffering from SUNCT headaches and schizoaffective disorder.

The following statement was issued:
“As you may have heard, HR (from Bad Brains/Human Rights) has been suffering from increasingly debilitating SUNCT headaches. On May 24, he made the difficult decision to cancel his upcoming shows and tours because the pain makes it impossible to perform. HR does not have disability insurance, so he is in need of funds to replace lost income over the next few months. Household expenses such as food, rent, and utilities are the immediate priority. As his neurology team is located 3+ hours from home, some money will be needed for travel, as well. We will keep you updated regarding his medical needs over the next couple of months. HR has about $350 in medical bills right now. We are currently working on other fundraising ideas, such as t-shirts, and will post an update when those are ready. Thank you for your love and support.”
Hudson also discussed his condition during a new interview with Rolling Stone:
“I have sharp, stabbing pains every couple of minutes in my brain for a couple of hours. Then it goes away — and then it comes back.”
His wife, Lori Carns, also revealed that a past arrangement concerning Hudson’s royalties from Bad Brains had a financial impact as well:
“They basically wrote a new contract between Darryl and Dr. Know and Earl and H.R.. I thought something was a little off about it so I was having an attorney look at it. But they were offering a monetary advance, so while I was at work, H.R. just signed it and sent it off. He basically signed away the majority of his royalties.”
Hudson continued:
“They offered me a certain amount of money, and we only had three days to get it done. And I said, ‘Sure, why not?’ But then later on, they switched up and changed the name of the band and started using my concepts for new sales.”
He also added the following about his future plans:
“My plan is to take it easy now and take a break. I need to get together with another surgeon and see what I can do, do some investigating so we can work it out.”
