Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Into The Unknown

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Into The Unknown.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

INTO THE UNKNOWN: Into The Unknown has been described as a symphonic rock band, which we are happy with. We formed the band way back in 2016, and have released 2 full albums, (“Out Of The Shadows” and “Breaking The Silence”), as well as a mini album of covers (“The Other Side Of The Wall”), and a few one off singles, including “Out In The Fields” and our current release “Into The Unknown”. The band was originally just three of us, Rupert, Ryan and Lucie, but we’ve expanded the line up to include James, Richard and Paul, with Natalie now replacing our original singer, Lucie.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

INTO THE UNKNOWN: The influences are very varied, none of us have the same tastes but the amalgamation of different styles makes us what we are now. Rupert is into the symphonic metal stuff like Nightwish and Within Temptation, but also classic rock like Def Leppard and Poison, Ryan is a huge AC/DC fan, as well as Slash. James is into his death metal, and bands like GWAR and Lordi, but also Lady Gaga! Paul is more melodic, listening to Meatloaf, Bruce Hornsby and Bon Jovi, whereas Natalie comes from a pop/jazz and musical theatre background.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

INTO THE UNKNOWN: The latest release is a cover of “Into The Unknown” from the “Frozen 2” soundtrack. When we recorded the other side of the wall, one of the songs on there was our version of “I Wanna Be Like You” from “The Jungle Book,” so when we heard that the main song from “Frozen 2” was “Into The Unknown,” we took it as a challenge from Disney! It was a bit of fun, and we think that it came out well, and serves as a nice introduction to Natalie for anyone who knows our previous music.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

INTO THE UNKNOWN: Hopefully a kick arse show, we are currently in rehearsals making sure that the songs are tight, and working well in a live setting. Obviously when the band was a three piece, we were limited as to what we could do live, we did some acoustic unplugged shows and they went down well, which is why we expanded the lineup to allow us to go “full band” live … obviously life got in the way over the last couple of years but we are having a ball arranging the songs for playing live, and hope that when you get to see them, you will also enjoy the experience.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

INTO THE UNKNOWN: Hopefully stronger than ever! 5 years, we expect to have released a few albums, done some festivals and maybe embarking on some big tours. But in all honesty, we take every day as it comes, we are currently working on album three now that we are all allowed to see each other again, and that’s our priority. Its mostly written and a lot has been recorded. And we are quite excited about how it sounds so far. Rupert, who is our producer as well as our bass player has been working with immersive audio, so the idea is that the album will be done using immersive 3D audio, like we did with the single.
