Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with ATTRITION.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
ATTRITION: ATTRITION was born in Coventry at the end of 1980… originally a post punk guitar/bass/drum line up it soon transformed into a more and more electronic band… and then later still took on classical influences in violas/cellos/violins… creating music from dark rhythmic electronic/industrial songs to more atmospheric soundtracks… we have released something like 30 albums to date and toured all over the world… We are completing our new album, “The Black Maria” this year, and in the meantime have just had a 40 year collection released on US label Sleepers Records…on Vinyl and digital formats… you can listen to it on out official Bandcamp site.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
ATTRITION: Politically we were inspired by punk ideals.. sonically we took influences from the post punk sound of bands like Cabaret Voltaire, Magazine, Kraftwerk, Joy Division, PIL, and the later industrial scene… but the band has evolved a lot since the early days and has taken in a lot more than that… from classical to drum and bass and film soundtracks…having scored the music on several horror films and shorts over the years, in between the regular albums and tours…
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
ATTRITION: As I mentioned the actual latest release is “A Great Desire (1986 – 2004)” a collection of music from the bands mid period, much of which never appeared on vinyl before… the next all new album will be with us by the end of 2022… a little delayed by covid… we did put out a single from the album last year… with a video made by main man Martin Bowes…Find “The Alibi” here on our official Youtube channel… All the albums in recent years have been produced by Martin in his studio, The Cage” where he also works with other bands…
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
ATTRITION: It varies… usually it’s an upbeat electronic/industrial set with male and female vocals, synths, drum programs and occasionally a guest guitar or violins… recently we have been performing some of our soundtrack albums in a live setting for the first time… It’s been so good to try something new as we return to the stage after the enforced 2 year absence…
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
ATTRITION : I think you have to always evolve… try something a little different or things get tired… so I would like to say that I don’t really know exactly where we will be in 5 years time… and I look forward to finding out… Thank you for the interview!
