Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Maya.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
MAYA: We’re MAYA from San Jose, CA. Also known as Maya Over Eyes. Started playing music together in High School and now we’re stuck with each other. Two things we love most are jamming and eating burritos.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
MAYA: We for real have a wide range of influences. From artists and bands within our genre to music that our parents passed down to us. But as far as who influenced us to play heavy music: Sepultura, Hatebreed, and Slipknot.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
MAYA: Our latest release is an EP titled “Despierta,” which translates to “Awake.” This is out via Shark City Recordings which is a Record Label we created. This is our third release as a band and you should check it out if you like sick riffs and sick mosh parts.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
MAYA: To see us playing loud and heavy with a smile on our face. Also, a great fucking time!
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
MAYA: Definitely releasing more music (We’ve been writing new material) and playing as many shows as possible!
