Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with River Knight.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
RIVER KNIGHT: Darren: My name is Darren Knight. I play guitar and sing.
Stone: I’m Stone River and I just do vocals.
Darren: But we both do more on our album GROW. Percussion, keys, you know…
Stone: We had some guests on the album too, but it’s the two of us make up River Knight.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
RIVER KNIGHT: Stone: Believe it or not, Iron Maiden. I’m not sure you can hear it in what I do now but they were very important early on. Guns n’ Roses, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Hot Chocolate, many many more.
Darren: The Beatles, David Bowie, James Taylor, The Black Crowes, Elbow, Wham!. Hehehe.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
RIVER KNIGHT: Stone: Our most recent release is our album “Grow.”
Darren: It’s a journey, it swells and flows but it changes and evolves and devolves. From the optimistic americana britpop of “She Came Round” to the more classic rock sounding songs like “Sense Out Of Crisis” and “Mystic Miles” to the fragility of Elope to a bit of rapping on “Th(f)ree.” Positivity is the meaning of the album.
Stone: But always acoustic, that’s our thing. We have various influences from multiple decades and genres, we create music that defies labels. I would say that each of the songs has its own individuality, all the while retaining the essence of what River Knight are.
Darren: At the end of the day they’re just good songs.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
RIVER KNIGHT: Darren: A good time.
Stone: Always a good time.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
RIVER KNIGHT: Stone: Hopefully be on our 3rd or 4th album by then, have a couple of world tours under our belts.
Darren: We’re gonna keep doing what we’re doing. I think I’ll keep doing this until I can’t.
Stone: Thanks for having us, it’s been a pleasure
Darren: Stay safe.
