Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With SKAGS

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with SKAGS.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

SKAGS: In 2017, founding members vocalist Spyretta Driva, Kostas Sokos (guitar), and Sotiris Angelidis (bass/vocals) came together with others to form a cover band, taking the first letter from each other’s name to form the acronym, and band name – SKAGS. Keyboardist Christina Papandreou and drummer Christos Alexandris would later join the band, as SKAGS found a solid lineup. The band’s name began as an acronym, formed by the first letters of our member’s names at that time. Since then, inevitably, some members left and other came, but in the meanwhile we decided to keep the name. Actually, the word “skag” is slang for recreational drugs, and such we consider our music, intense and highly addictive.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

SKAGS: We all share the love of music, however each one of us has his/her own personal taste. As a result, our music is influenced by diverse musical genres, composers, and bands. It is worth mentioning though, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Guns N’ Roses and Dream Theater, which are the band’s most favorite artists and the ones that we grew up listening to. The main intention of the songs is to alter your perspective on the world. From “Zak” which talks on victims of law and violence, to “The Guillotine” which talks about the inevitable destruction of our planet. There’s plenty in the slick selection of tracks to sink your teeth into and learn something from. Our songs concern a multitude of subjects, mainly social and political, such as discrimination of any kind and the alienation we experience in modern societies. As the music progresses through each track in our record, we portray our take on a variety of social issues we deal with today. We really want to make a truthful connection with every listener, a sort of a non-typical “conversation.”

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

SKAGS: Our latest release is our debut album “Digital Cage Of A Cursed Generation”, released on the 5th of November 2020. Listening to SKAGS is not only a musical experience. Our music is a journey with places to visit, a way to see things in different ways and share your thoughts. Our songs have the energy and vibe that can bring out every kind of emotion and captivate your soul. It’s music for every mood!

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

SKAGS: We would say they should expect energy and a variety of emotions flowing depending on the track. Our ultimate goal of course is for them to have a good time and enjoy the show.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

SKAGS: Well, they say the sky’s the limit. We have a lot of ambitions for the band and we put a lot of effort into that. Currently we have already written songs for 2 more albums and we want to record them and produce new albums. The biggest ambition though, is to continue writing music that means something to us and other people.
