Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Catalysis

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Catalysis.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

CATALYSIS: We are a 5 piece metal band from Dundee, Scotland. We formed in 2016 and released our first EP, Into the Unknown a year later. In 2018, we had some lineup changes with our bassist moving to vocals and us becoming a 4 piece for a period, during which we released a self titled EP. In 2019, we became a 5 piece again and recorded our debut full length, Connection Lost, due for release in July 2020.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

CATALYSIS: Musically we are all fans of Machine Head, Sylosis, Chimaira, Trivium and of course a lot of the classic metal acts like Sepultura, Slayer etc. We also have members who are very into black and death metal – you can hear little glimpses of that in our sound, but not super often.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

CATALYSIS: Our latest release is technically our self titled EP as the album isn’t out yet (thanks, COVID-19). You should check it out to get an idea of our sound, ahead of the release of the new record this July. The full length takes what we did on that self titled EP and expands on it – more melodic passages, more involved songwriting, also more heavy in places. We’ve taken each of the core elements of the songwriting and turned them up to 11. Also, be sure to check out the new record as it features guest appearances by Phil Demmel (ex-Machine Head, Vio-lence) and Joey Radziwill (Sacred Reich).

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

CATALYSIS: An energetic, passionate performance – we don’t like bands who just stand and do nothing on stage. We try to balance energy and showmanship with musical integrity and a good, tight set.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

CATALYSIS: It’s hard to say – we’re all working, 2 of us have children. The band is definitely more of a hobby than a career, but we’re all very committed to it, too. In just over 3 years, we’ve released 2 EPs, we’ve got an album ready, we’ve toured Europe. I don’t see any signs of us stopping!
