Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Voltagehawk.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
VOLTAGEHAWK: DAN FENTON: Voltagehawk is you. Voltagehawk is me. We are just conduits for cosmic transmissions. We started out jamming for fun in a basement, like most bands. We all had fruitful careers prior to meeting each other but this band was different. We said fuck rules, fuck genre worship, let’s just make what we feel. We all grew up with blues, jazz, metal, punk, hip hop and rock influence but we never had the desire to imitate. Voltagehawk is and has always been.
CHASE AROCHA: We are a hard rock band with a ton of influences, trying our best to create music we have never heard. Along with sending a message of compassion for others. Standing up against those who live for greed and controlling the thoughts of others.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
VOLTAGEHAWK: DAN FENTON: Hans Zimmer, Vangelis, Tom Waits, a lot of cinema. Film scores, orchestral movements. Politics, social issues. We write what we see and right now there is a lot to see.
CHASE AROCHA: Mr. Bungle is one of the bands that really helped me form a personality in music. Not being afraid of what genre each song is or even mid song haha. They are true free thinkers and Mike Patton is such an incredible writer, who still is always doing a project that is a world apart from his last. Coheed and Cambria is another big one, Zakk Wylde, John 5 for sure. People who bend genres and push limits, I’m all about it!
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
VOLTAGEHAWK: DAN FENTON: We are currently in mastering with Brian Lucey of Magic Garden Mastering out in LA. We spent 2019 tracking a 13 song space journey called Electric Thunder. Recorded by Geoff Piller in Berry Hill district of Nashville. That record will be available later this year or early next. Currently we have a 8 song self titled record that is available on all streaming platforms. The lead single Modern Gasoline is a driving yet pocketed tale of the juxtaposition of the battle of finding oneself through the struggles of addiction.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
VOLTAGEHAWK: DAN FENTON: You just have to show up. We don’t really even do our stage plot the same each night. We give ourselves to the sound man. It is as important for us to create wild art with the audience as for them to take it in. A lot of solos, a lot of low end and probably some blood.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
VOLTAGEHAWK: DAN FENTON: In the studio being a conduit for the cosmos. Never saying no to influence and just continuing to create. There is no fucking top of the hill. There is no “we’ll own this business.” Fuck all that shit. We follow our instincts and make the music we want to make. I could be dead in five years. I just want to make music today.
