Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Dan Kincaid.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
KINCAID: I’m a solo artist. I’m putting together a live band right now, I think people will be excited when I announce the lineup!
This time I teamed up with two amazing producers, Christian Eigner of Depeche Mode and Niko Stoessl, to create my debut solo album “Persona Non Grata”. I wrote all the songs, lyrics, and melodies, recording my vocals and demos in Los Angeles. Basically, I’d lay down the basic song structure and demo it out enough to give Christian and Niko an idea of the vibe I had in mind and then let them do what they do best! They took my lyrics and melodies and produced, arranged, mixed, mastered and played the majority of the instruments on the album. What resulted is a truly impactful musical experience.
I’ve previously fronted bands such as Spit Out Star, SuperNo and Six Days ‘Til Sunday.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
KINCAID: I have an eclectic mix of music. I love Frank Sinatra, David Bowie, Prince, Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, Judas Priest, Yngwie Malmsteen, Iron Maiden, and Nine Inch Nails. Having such a wide range of influences has really helped me develop my own style and sound.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
KINCAID: My latest release is called Persona Non Grata. It’s my soul on display in musical form.
Persona Non Grata is about life, love, loss, the strength to face your demons and the power to rise above them. In my life, I’ve experienced traumatic events, which led me down a path to self-destruction. This album is about rebirth. Persona Non Grata is about rising from the ashes. I want everyone who has been where I’ve been to know that there is hope.
I think people will relate to a lot of the subject matter on the album. The really cool thing about these songs is that they’re not complete until you add
your own story to them.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
KINCAID: They can expect some major production value. I believe that if someone is going to spend their hard-earned money to come out and see me, it’s my duty to give them their money’s worth.
Not only will the band throw down like a mutha’ fucker but it will be presented with an immersive multi-media experience designed to portray the music as it should be portrayed.
Don’t get me wrong, the performance of the band itself will be amazing. I just believe in doing more and making it a truly memorable experience.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
KINCAID: I’d love to see myself out headlining a major tour with Christian and Niko on the stage with me. We’ve created something special and I’d love to see us continuing that journey and taking things even further.
I’d like for everyone to hear these songs on the radio, in movies, video games and on TV! I’m extremely proud of this album and very optimistic about its future!
