Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Fires Of Freya

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Fires Of Freya.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

FIRES OF FREYA: Fires of Freya are a four-piece Rock band; Cheryl Reynolds on lead vocals and keyboards, Shaun Evans on Guitar and backing vocals, Dan Baldwin on Drums and James Withington on Bass guitar. Based in the North East of England, we came together in the beginning of 2018, released our 1st single ‘Take a Bow’ in September 2019 and recorded our second single ‘Complicated’ which is due for release in early 2020.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

FIRES OF FREYA: Influences are very varied throughout the band from bands such as Blink-182 and The Offspring to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters to Halestorm, Evanescence, HIM, Shinedown and Alter Bridge. There is also some more 70’s-80’s influences thrown in too such as Roxette, Fleetwood Mac, Rainbow and Bon Jovi. Influence is taken from many bands, but we don’t believe our sound could be linked to any other in particular.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

FIRES OF FREYA: We released our 1st single ‘Take a Bow’ in September 2019. Every review it’s received has been so positive, from 5-star reviews (Thanks NE Volume Magazine) to radio plays on large national radio shows such as Planet Rock (thanks Wyatt, The New Rock Show) as well as worldwide radio plays! We are finalists in the Banger music awards (USA) and finalist’s for Nova Radio track of the year, so we’re doing well. Our 1st single is a moody, blues rock-esk track with incredible solos and powerhouse vocals that’s definitely worth a listen!! It can be streamed from all major streaming services and downloaded in all the usual places; Amazon, Goodle Play, iTunes etc. Check it out! We’ll be releasing our 2nd single in early 2020 so keep an eye out for that too!

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

FIRES OF FREYA: We play eclectic rock, no two songs sound the same and it’s hard to place us into a specific genre. We’re definitely rock but sub genres become a blur from track to track, that’s how we like it! We vary our setlist from show to show, pour our heart and soul into our performances and have been likened to Bring Me the Horizon which was a huge compliment, not our sound, but our energy on stage. We definitely suite bigger stages to small as we like to move around and be energetic and there is almost always a shit shirt on Shaun. The shirts get worse and worse each show, for example at our single launch he wore a vest top which depicted a cat riding a shark which was vomiting a rainbow in space!

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

FIRES OF FREYA: In 5 years we’d like to amass a sizable following, we’d like to have completed an album or two and be able to tour the UK successfully and beyond. It’s any musicians dream to be doing what they love full time, that’s our goal! We love what we do, we love to pour our emotions into our attitude filled songs and we love performing and getting creative! We hope to still be doing what we do to more and more people and we hope we can create music people like and have a connection with and music that helps people.
