Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Dark Below

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Quin Koldan of Dark Below.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

KOLDAN: Well the band started in 2012-2013 when Josh Campbell, our guitarist/vocalist, and the former drummer met to play music through Craigslist. Josh Grove was a friend of the old drummer, and joined soon after to take up the role of bassist pretty quick afterwards. Late 2016 I found the band page on facebook with a post looking for a drummer, and officially joined at the start of 2017.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

KOLDAN: All three of us have a variety of influences, so it’s a little difficult to narrow down; but a few of our common influences are Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, and 10 Years. As for my personal influences, I listened to a lot of Green Day, as well as the Spice Girls. Their hit ‘Wannabe’ really carried me through tough times growing up.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

KOLDAN: Our latest release would be our single, ‘Halo’. You can find it on Spotify, as well as our new lyric video for the song on Youtube. Readers will find a lot of elements reminiscent of early 2000s hard rock acts like Chevelle or Breaking Benjamin, but have some modern rock and post-hardcore influences and even some 90s as well.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

KOLDAN: I would describe our live shows as full bodied, loud, and genuine! At the core I, as well as the other guys, love to play heavy music and aim to make the biggest impact we can with our music, so our live performance is definitely a show worth catching! Plus it’s an extra opportunity to meet people that like the same style of music and hopefully create fans, which is always an amazing experience.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

KOLDAN: Onward and upward! We all love live shows, whether as the band or an audience member, so I don’t see any of us stopping any time soon!
