Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Shout At The Robots.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
SHOUT AT THE ROBOTS: Hi, we’re a band of four fairly weird guys from upstate New York who play music that is equal parts melodic and hopeful, and noisy and cynical. Basically we play with a lot of contradictions. We like making our music, shows, merch, outlook etc. representative of the fact that we’re weird. You’re weird, we accept that and want you to hang out with us or at least listen to our stuff and maybe feel slightly more okay with said weirdness.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
SHOUT AT THE ROBOTS: I’m not even sure if all four of us have one MAIN influence that we love. We all kind of like things in groups. Although our last show we attended as a group was Refused and The Hives so there’s that. Throw in They Might Be Giants, Miles Davis, Bjork, and Uncle Tupelo and you’ll sort of get the idea. Mainly, there isn’t much of an idea. We’re all huge music fans and we kind of just mix everything together and look for what feels best. Or worst, depending on the situation.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
SHOUT AT THE ROBOTS: We just put out an EP called Passion Aggressive and your readers should check it out because it’s better than our first album and it’s a taste of what will be our EVEN BETTER second album. It’s got a little bit of everything on it from reverb weird guitar stuff to questionable literary references to a whole lot of noise coming at you from all sides.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
SHOUT AT THE ROBOTS: Kind of what I just used to describe the EP, as well as strange between song banter about cats, someone in the band wandering off to talk to the crowd, us trying to teach you all the chorus so we can all sing it badly together. That kind of thing.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
SHOUT AT THE ROBOTS: Bigger, better, not dead. Touring as much as possible, putting out releases that are evolving and different every time. Playing shows with new friends who we love and making new friends out of the crowd, with hopefully a minimum of enemies. We’ll see what happens!
