Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Alex Cunliffe of Bloodmores.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
CUNLIFFE: Hey everyone, we are Bloodmores, based in the North-West of England, and we’re comprised of myself, Alex Cunliffe – Guitar/Vocals, with Richard Jodrell – Guitar, Connor Heelis – Bass, and Chris Mansell – Drums. We play a sort of mixture of metal genres, which is primarily thrash based, but with elements of death metal, and the occasional hint of metalcore too.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
CUNLIFFE: Everyone in the band has different favorite bands, but some shared influences between all of us would probably be Hypocrisy, At The Gates, The Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver, Arch Enemy, Nevermore, Lamb Of God and Unearth, to name a few off the top of my head.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
CUNLIFFE: Our latest release was our debut album, The Seeds Of Seasons, which we released on February 1st 2019, and can be streamed or downloaded from all the usual places, like Spotify, iTunes, Amazon etc.
If anyone reading this is into any number of the bands I’ve just listed as influences, then there’s a good chance that there’ll be something on our album that they’ll enjoy. With such a wide range of influences between us all, there’s a lot going on on our album, so there’s tracks that are straight up thrash influenced, there’s heavier, more death metal inspired tracks, there’s a lot of melodic sections, a lot of breakdown type sections, and at the end, there’s our more progressive death metal based title track, which clocks in at almost 15 minutes, and would probably be more suited for fans of bands like Opeth, for example.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
CUNLIFFE: A lot of energy throughout our performance, for sure. We’re definitely not a band that remains motionless for our sets. Obviously I have to stay fairly close to the microphone for most of the time, but Richard and Connor run wireless set-ups, so they’re always getting off stage to get involved with the crowd, or even just to climb on speakers, and stuff, to play solos etc. We also put a lot of time into rehearsing for each show too, cause it’s no good jumping around, trying to have a good time yourself, if you don’t sound good to everyone else while doing it, so we’ve received a lot of compliments and feedback regarding how tight our sets have sounded so far, and a lot of people we speak to seem quite surprised that we’re as tight as we are live when they find out that we’ve only been performing together for around 6 months.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
CUNLIFFE: Hopefully we’ll have a couple more albums behind us by then, as we’re always working on new music, and we’re aiming to have a follow-up to our debut album in the works sooner, rather than later. I’d also like to have made somewhat of a name for ourselves by then too, even if we’re just regarded as solid opening act for bands bigger than ourselves, I’d be more than happy with that, just to know that people are enjoying our music, and would want to see us live some time.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us today, guys. We’re still a fairly new and upcoming bad, and we appreciate your support.
Cheers!
