Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to artists that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Hooby And The Yabbit.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
HOOBY AND THE YABBIT: Hi everyone. Hooby and the Yabbit is a kind of a solo project with band tendencies formed out of the wreckage of a Blues /Rock/ Jazz cover band I used to play bass for. I built a studio around an old console and after a while, and with some help from my friends, arrived at ‘Out of Time,’ my first release. We’ve done a few gigs and festivals and we play Blues Rock originals and covers.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
HOOBY AND THE YABBIT: ZZ Top, Creedence Clearwater Revival, George Thorogood, Cream. You can hear some of this in our sound I think, I listened to and loved these groups, and others like them for years, so it’s not surprising if it comes out in the music.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
HOOBY AND THE YABBIT: ‘Out Of Time’ is a four track EP built for late night listening. Think British R&B meets Southern Boogie Rock. It starts off steady, but sleazy, and builds through some solid blues with a bit of a political lyrics. There’s some Thorogood style rock before heading to ‘Freak Out,’ a mad Hendrix/ Creedence style instrumental at the end. We’ve got lead/ slide guitar, big drum beats, and a dirty retro feel on the vocals. Check it out
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
HOOBY AND THE YABBIT: They can expect an old fashioned power trio blasting out originals and covers, acoustic sections, favorite covers to dance to at the end, drinking of beers, and good times.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band in 5 years?
HOOBY AND THE YABBIT: Well we’re building up to UK shows and touring Europe hopefully this year and a new album is coming soon. I have a lot of acoustic music I’m going to tour solo with, and I’ll add some of the electric tracks rearranged for this too. But five years is too far to see really……Um, all I would hope for is that I’m still going! Given the daft shit going on around us in the world I wouldn’t dare hope for any more really. As Catpain Blackadder said: ‘Good luck everyone’.
