Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with My Dark Rift.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
MY DARK RIFT: My Dark Rift started as a project by the stockholm based musicians David Sundbom (ex-Skiller), guitarists Kristoffer Folin (Plan Three) and David Szücs (Degradead), bassist Mattias Lekborn (Furiam) and drummer Kenneth Holborn (ex-Degradead). To put it simple. We are a Metal band. We take our inspiration from all types of heavy music from thrash and death to NWOBHM and try to mix it all as much we can.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
MY DARK RIFT: It is a wide stretch of everything that goes under the genre of Metal. We all have come to love so many parts of Metal music over the years so the music is influenced by so many. It would be impossible to pick even the main ones. Of course we have bands that we listen to more right now than others, but I don’t know if they are necessarily the bands that influence the music we make.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
MY DARK RIFT: Well we are a new band on the scene that have only released two songs so far, but the response we have been getting is insane, especially on the first single (“Make Me Stronger”) that made it all the way to number one on the Swedish iTunes chart and well over 80,000 spins on Spotify so far. So I guess we must be doing something right. And I think everyone who is into Metal should check us out because we work really hard to make the best damn music we can in the best damn quality out there.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
MY DARK RIFT: Right now nothing, because we will not start doing shows until this fall and then they should expect everything and even a little more than that.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
MY DARK RIFT: Well I see us as pretty much an established act by then. We will keep on releaseing great songs and playing as much as possible for all those likeminded metalheads out there. Rock on!
