Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Hostile Array

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Hostile Array vocalist Brendan Frey.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

FREY: We are a band based out of Frederick, Maryland. The 5 of us have been playing music together for several years in other projects. Musically we blend elements of post-hardcore and metalcore, while lyrically I would describe us as politically charged.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

FREY: We pull a lot from artists that we grew up listening to such as Underoath and Norma Jean, but we also pull from newer artists in our genre such as Silent Planet and Architects. There are plenty more, but these are definitely our most prominent.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

FREY: We recently released a new single called “Warmonger” which will be featured on our debut self-titled album, available June 1st. This album is a political and social commentary regarding the fucked up nature of our broken political system. We tackled topics such as foreign intervention, immigration reform, domestic surveillance, the military industrial complex, and many other issues that require serious overhaul in the US.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

FREY: We try to keep things energetic. Our music is written from an agitated state of mind, this is our outlet to express our frustration, so expect that to be reflected in our live set.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

FREY: A lot can change in 5 years, but I hope to be still making music that has meaning to us, but on a larger and more frequent scale. In the end, we just want to have our message heard by anyone that is willing to listen.
