Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Manananggal.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
MANANANGGAL: Our band formed in Pottstown PA, but we relocated to Philadelphia. We play black / doom metal.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
MANANANGGAL: Sabbath, Pentagram, Jacula, Black Hole, Paul Chain, Death SS, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Goblin, Boc, etc.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
MANANANGGAL: Our latest releases are two live recordings, one at the Nail in Ardmore PA and the other from 2016 from Moshing For Hunger in Willow Grove. The reason why people would like to hear us is because our band’s sound is not like the normal black metal or death metal fair. Instead we take black metal and doom metal and move it in a more progish psychedelic area much like the styles of bands like Jacula and Goblin (they’re not bm so you know). We also have one ep called Dope Francis too.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
MANANANGGAL: Our live shows don’t have a lot going on for them as theatrics are concerned, but I will say this, at least 90% of our shows we have done people have for the most part been entertained and enjoyed our music. Thus, if you come to our shows I can tell you that you’ll leave satisfied from listening to music that you’ve never heard before.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
MANANANGGAL: I’d say doing more shows and recording things like albums, splits, etc. but right now we are currently trying to hold back on doing shows since we’re currently finishing up putting the final touches on our upcoming album and we’ve also been in talks with a label as well (also in the Philadelphia / Nj area).
