Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Phil Freeman from Small Town Titans.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
FREEMAN: Ben Guiles – Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals, Phil Freeman – Lead Vocals, Bass Guitar, and Jonny Ross – Drums, Backing Vocals. We’re a hard rock trio based out of South Central Pennsylvania that has been together since 2011. Since then, we’ve toured the country, opened for some amazing acts, released 3 albums worth of material plus several singles, played awesome headlining shows, bled, sweated, and stumbled our way to where we currently are, with a popular cover of “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and a deal with TKO as our booking agency going into 2018. We’re very happy and humbled by the response and support we’ve received over the years
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
FREEMAN: Coal and the smell of cow shit. Haha! It’s everywhere in PA, but I have a weird little place in my heart for it. Plus, a bit of Soundgarden, Deep Purple, Motley Crue, Foo Fighters; life and its
many facets.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
FREEMAN: Our latest releases are our song Me Myself and Monster and our cover of You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch. The response for both of these releases have been incredible, unprecedented to say the least. It was sound engineered by Kevin Soffera of Hybrid Studios and filmed by Springwood Productions, both of which are masters of their crafts. You can check them both out here:
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
FREEMAN: An entertaining experience with a lot of jumping, moshing, and insults between Ben, Jonny, and I, all in good fun, of course. Usually the crowd ends up chanting “Fuck You Ben!” just because he likes to make fun of the audience for no particular reason, and he gets what he deserves. Hahaha! We even made a t-shirt in honor of the chant. It sells really well too!
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
FREEMAN: Well, if 2018 ends up being as busy as we think it’s going to, we’ll most likely be touring and/or creating all kinds of content on all kinds of platforms for the world to enjoy. We’re really looking forward to what’s next!
