Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Bob James from Silent Theory.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
JAMES: Silent Theory is comprised of 5 gentlemen: Dakota [Elliot Tyler], Mitch [Swanger], Scott [Swanger], George [Swanger] and Bob [James]. One thing that makes us a little unique is that Mitch, Scott and George are brothers. Four of us have been playing music as Silent Theory since 2010, and Dakota has been with us since 2014. We call North Idaho home, which surprises most people. In the last year we’ve released a full length studio album and two music videos, and we’re hoping to have some new music coming out this spring before tour season starts.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
JAMES: Our musical influences are really all over the board, from old school country to some pretty heavy metal. I think for Dakota, the bands that had the biggest impact on him as a musician were Linkin Park and Chevelle.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
JAMES: Album wise, we released Delusions about a year ago, but most recently we released a music video for our song Watch Me Burn about a month ago. I think your readers should go check out Delusions because it has a really good balance of heavy riffs, catchy melodies, and meaningful lyrics. We are not the type to just put words in a song just because they rhyme. We really try to tell a story with some substance.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
JAMES: A lot of energy, a tight performance musically and probably a few stupid jokes. We put a lot of effort into our performance, but we also like to have a good time.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
JAMES: I really hope that within the next 5 years we can expand our touring opportunities to Europe and South America. We have a lot of great fans all over the world, and we want to meet them all.
