Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Mathieu Torres from the pirate metal band Barbar’O’Rhum.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
TORRES: We have a lot of influences, each musician brings their own influences in the band. But our main influences are Celtic Rock, Irish Punk and Folk Metal. We create our own sound, “Rock ‘n’ Rum”, by mixing all these kinds of music. We can also quote Traditionnal Music and Sea Shanties.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
TORRES: Our lastest release is our first album “Toutes les Routes Mènent au Rhum”. Or “All roads lead to Rum” in English. This CD was released on the 1st July, 2016.
We think readers of this site should check it out because we try to play our own sound, our own universe, our own kind of music. We sing in French, we mix Metal/Punk/Rock and Celtic music, we are talking about pirates, rum, treasures and wenches, so come take a bottle a rum and enjoy our first album matey!
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
TORRES: Our live shows are a journey in the Golden Age of the Piracy! People can see our pirate clothes, our sceneries (barrels, gallows, skeleton, rudder …), our traditional instruments (bagpipe, bouzouki, tin whistle)! We want to bring people in the past, in Tortuga, on a pirate ship! Are you ready for the boarding?
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
TORRES: Well, we are a 3-year band, we hope we will continue to sail, to plunder and to play pirate music in Europe and why not in all the world ! A lot of shows!
