Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With WEAK13

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with WEAK13.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

WEAK13: WEAK13 is a living breathing middle finger to the mainstream corporate bullshit music industry. Lyrically we enjoy mocking the corrupt governments of the world that are run by psychopathic control freaks who manipulate peoples minds using fabricated staged events in news media. Most bands and musicians are afraid to cover important subjects in a coherent manner; simply yelling “fuck you” is not enough; fuck who and why? We write songs with metal overtones, most WEAK13 tunes lyrically aim to reveal the illusion of freedom and choice in a world that is polluted by lies thanks to giant media conglomerates. We have faith in humanity as there are good people out there, however so many are brainwashed by mass media; so WEAK13 is trying to repair the damage made by the mainstream music industry which produces simple pop songs containing mind numbing lyrics which do nothing more than help dumb down the population. WEAK13 songs are full of punk metal energy with intelligent lyrics and we’re trying to do something positive in a negative world.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

WEAK13: ‘They Live’ is the band’s debut studio album; it took 3 years to make and its basically a Trojan horse; it sounds as good as any major album you can think of but this is a professional record self funded and released by an independent band with no record label to interfere with the creativity; we write exactly what we want on our own terms and the album has only had great reviews; we don’t allow it to be streamed and it’s only available from the band website weak13official.com because we control our own music. This is an album that people play in their cars on their way to work to get them through the day; an album that people can actually relate to and think “thank goodness; someone out there has said what I’ve been thinking all along”.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

WEAK13: There are a lot of music journalists who have brought up names of bands such as Prong, Mudvayne, Amen, Nirvana and even Ozzy Osborne when trying to describe WEAK13; we’re mainly inspired musically by the good metal and rock bands of the 1990s; we’re doing our own thing but fans love the fact that musically many of our songs have a nostalgic salute to the past without ripping anyone off. We sound like WEAK13.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

WEAK13: Mainly people want to see if we can perform what they hear us do on the album and they get their reward as we’re very experienced live. We have a very good relationship with the bands we support, tour or headline with and its a fun experience all round. What can people expect when they go to a WEAK13 show? Well they can see that we love playing live and we normally play with real talented bands we like who respect what we do back.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

WEAK13: 5 years ago I would not have believed that there would be countless reviewers raving about an album we eventually managed to self release that contains songs which were once merely ideas in our heads, or believe that our music videos would get hits in the thousands. I have no idea what the future offers but what I can say is that we do more each year and we will keep growing. If I was someone else reading this I’d hope that if they get anything at all from hearing about our band it’s that if you believe in doing something deemed as impossible in other peoples opinion – it can happen in reality if you actually push yourself and take your own ideas seriously.
