Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to up and coming bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with the London based hard rock band Redwire.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
REDWIRE: Redwire started with D [Goomani] and Aimee [Rivers] realising a mutual love of music, jamming after work and beginning to write riffs and improvising together. After a while D’s songwriting was getting better, they realised the songs were actually pretty good, so they started to look for other band members to perform together. They first found singer Mario [Patsalosavis] in early 2014 and started serious rehearsals for their first gig at the 12 Bar Club in May 2014.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
REDWIRE: Guns n’ Roses for sure: Slash for awesome licks and solos, Duff for wicked bass lines, Steve Adler for creative drum beats. Our singer Mario loves Green Day and takes a lot of inspiration from Billie Joe.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
REDWIRE: Our latest release is our 2015 EP, you can expect well crafted songs, all with meaning and emotion. Even though we’re a hard rock band, all the songs we write are formed from life experiences and things we’ve had to go through. Our songs are relatable to people who are going through uncertain times and want to leave it all behind.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
REDWIRE: Expect a whole load of energy! We play loud and pour a whole load of feeling into it. We like a big stage so we can move around a lot, and it’s not uncommon for us to jump off the stage and right into a mosh pit. Sometimes we even have members of the crowd storming the stage to dance. We like the blurring of lines between crowd and band. It’s a collective experience.
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
REDWIRE: We see ourselves having a large and loyal fan base that really relate to our music and the sentiment we try to convey.
