Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Under The Mountain.
METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:
UNDER THE MOUNTAIN: In short, we’re just four dudes that love to have fun and writing and performing music is just part of it. We’ve never considered ourselves a certain genre, we just write what we think sounds good, and people pick up on that and see that we’re genuine and really love what we do. We wouldn’t be in it otherwise.
METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?
UNDER THE MOUNTAIN: We really have tons of influences and there are way too many to name. Hard Rock and metal influences from AC/DC, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Black Label Society, TOOL, Pantera, Down, King Buffalo… I mean, the list goes on. We definitely have some southern sounds coming from a love of Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers. Some hip hop kind of influence such as Rage Against The Machine and the Beastie Boys. And everything seems to stem from the old blues back in the day. Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker, just to name a few. In reality, we all listen to many different types of music and it’s all a bit mashed into our sound.
METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?
UNDER THE MOUNTAIN: We just released a cover of Black Velvet by Alannah Myles as well as a video for it on Aug 16, 2020. We’ve always felt a little skeptical about recording a cover, but this one ended up being quite a lot different from the original and thought people might want to hear a much heavier version of the song. Still with a bass driven groove, tasty guitar licks, and belting vocals, our slowed down, sludgier version will definitely have you rocking and wanting more.
METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?
UNDER THE MOUNTAIN: I feel like we kind of bring a bit of a punk vibe to our shows, as far as energy goes, but we’re more melodic and blues rockin. Add that together with a dash of psychedelic prog rock, and that’s Under The Mountain shot out of Our Mother Music’s womb! So get ready to rock the fuck out!
METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?
UNDER THE MOUNTAIN: UTM has only been progressing more and more since day one. We’re not fearing Covid times, in fact we’re taking this opportunity to dig deep and get some music going that is far beyond anything we’ve written before. With a new management team and heading into the studio early 2021, we will be so ready to hit the road when it’s available for us again. In the next five years, I can see us growing and expanding to newer heights and having many international tours!
