Metal Anarchy’s New Music Showcase: Exclusive Q&A With Death & Legacy

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “new music showcase,” the feature where I introduce you to bands that readers of this site may find interesting. This time I have an exclusive Q&A with Death & Legacy.

METAL ANARCHY: Tell me a little about your band:

DEATH & LEGACY: We play melodic death metal, but we are a classic band.

METAL ANARCHY: Who are your main influences?

DEATH & LEGACY: We like to hear and play songs of bands like Metallica, Slayer, Kreator, etc. The bands for we loved metal and founded the band. Of course, new music too, Arch Enemy, Trivium, etc.

METAL ANARCHY: What is your latest release and why should readers of this site check it out?

DEATH & LEGACY: We just released our third album, “INF3RNO”. Its angry and powerful music, but the most melodic of our career too. Strong growls from frontwoman Hynphernia and pretty melodic lines from Isra Ramos, the best combination recorded in FINNVOX. A complete concept art of the magic GUSTAVO SAZES.

METAL ANARCHY: What can people expect when they go to your live shows?

DEATH & LEGACY: A passion and aggressive band playing with all of their heart and soul till end.

METAL ANARCHY: Where do you see your band heading in 5 years?

DEATH & LEGACY: I hope to realize a recompilation of a decade of Legacy and a worldwide tour, why not?

Metal Anarchy’s Music In The Age Of COVID-19 Series: Interview With Ghosts Of Sunset

Time for the next edition of Metal Anarchy’s “Music In The Age Of COVID-19” series, the feature where I discuss the ongoing pandemic with various musicians. This time I have an interview with John Merchant of Ghosts Of Sunset.

METAL ANARCHY: How have you been holding up during the coronavirus pandemic?

MERCHANT: I’ve been doing pretty good. Of course, this is something you never imagine yourself living through, but it’s definitely shined a light on people and their characters. We’ve seen human beings band together to do amazing things and we’ve seen the worst in others. The trick is to try and focus on the good and ignore the fact that some of your neighbours are completely self-absorbed and selfish.

METAL ANARCHY: Have you been using your downtime to work on new music?

MERCHANT: Yes. The beauty of being alive at this time in history is the fact that musicians need not be in the same physical space to create and collaborate together. In “quarantine” videos alone we’ve gotten to see some musical pairings we might not have seen otherwise. Keeping the creative process alive and functioning is the life-blood of musicians and artists. We’ll always find a way to do it because we HAVE to.

METAL ANARCHY: What was the last show you played or attended before the shutdown?

MERCHANT: Probably played a solo acoustic gig somewhere before things locked down. I’ve been able to get out and do some socially distanced stuff during the pandemic though and that has really re-enforced just how important playing live is to me.

METAL ANARCHY: Are you planning to play any livestream concerts during this time?

MERCHANT: We’ve done a “quarantine” style video for our single “Miles In-Between” on Golden Robot Records and were able to include guest guitarist Johnny Monoco (E’nuff Z’nuff, LA Guns) and guest drummer Kent Slucher (Luke Bryan). That was fun and super cool of those guys to be involved in that process.

METAL ANARCHY: Do you think the live entertainment industry will ever recover?

MERCHANT: Of course, it’s my hope we not only recover but come back better than ever. Now is a time when we should be learning how to create safer, healthier environments for our live events. We may see live music coming back in some new form but it’ll come back. The live exchange between performer and audience is woven into the fabric of our beings since the dawn of time.

METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, is there anything fans can do to help your band or others that may be struggling during this time?

MERCHANT: Support in other ways. Buy singles, buy merch, watch, share, and like streaming events. Realize that although others may not feel the same way, for those of us who LOVE music, it is 100% ESSENTIAL to our happiness and well-being. To let it fade away would be detrimental to us as individuals and a society as a whole.

Twisted Sister’s Jay Jay French Discusses New Book “Twisted Business”

During a recent interview with Joe Rock of 102.3 WBAB, Twisted Sister’s Jay Jay French offered more information on his new book “Twisted Business.” That effort will be released in 2021 and the guitarist says it will serve as “a business book and a memoir.”

French said the following:

“The book is gonna be fun. It’s a business book, because I ran the business of the band, and the band was a business-oriented band, which kind of runs counter to most rockers.

It’s called the music business, and people forget there’s a second word: business. People say, ‘sex, drugs, rock and roll.’ I say there’s a word missing in that description: money. So, they figure if you’re still around after sex, drugs and rock and roll, maybe there’s some money left over.”

He went on to describe the book as a “bizmoir”:

“What’s a bizmoir? It’s a business book and a memoir. Most books about business guys are bizmoirs. Because Steve Jobs can’t be Steve Jobs unless you know his story. You have to know the reason why people became the people they became.

I had to be honest in the book and explain that I became who I became because of my experiences. And the reason why we ran a business, and the reason why we were so straight, which shocks people to no end, is because I had a drug problem, and I was a drug dealer. And it was all those near-disasters that scared me straight and then turned me into this brutally straight business guy because of these other issues.”

On another note, French also talked about his new podcast “The French Connection”:

“I’m on so many podcasts, it’s insane. And finally, a podcast company said, ‘You should have your own.’ It’s called ‘The French Connection’, I’m excited about it. It’s gonna [cover] a very wide range of [topics]. It’s not music — I mean, it will be, a part of it — it has to be; it’s a big part of my life, bands and music — but it’s gonna be a lot of things. I want it to be about all the things I’m interested in and my hobbies, and health issues, ’cause I’ve certainly had enough health issues, and I certainly know a lot about certain health issues. Unfortunately, having had to experience them, you learn a lot about them. So I think from an educational standpoint, I want to educate people on prostate cancer; I wanna educate people on heart disease — I’ve had two heart procedures; I wanna educate people on uveitis, my daughter’s eye disease. So hopefully I can use it as a platform for a lot of good things.”

Spiritbox Partner With Rise Records, Plan To Release 7″ Vinyl Pressing Of “Holy Roller”

Spiritbox have reached a new partnership agreement with Rise Records through their label Pale Chord Music. With this news, the band have also announced that they will be releasing their latest single “Holy Roller” on 7″ vinyl. That effort will be available on December 4 and it will come with the original track and a remix that was done by Crystal Lake’s Ryo Kinoshita. The remix will also be released digitally on October 2. Pre-orders can be found HERE.

Courtney LaPlante said the following about partnering with Rise Records:

“We have always dreamed of partnering with a label that embraces our DIY mentality and respects our independence, a label that understands immediately what we want to accomplish and how we want to get there.

It has been surreal getting to know the team at Rise Records, never feeling like we have to be anything other than our authentic selves. They are not some monolithic corporation, but individuals with a passion for music. They understand us and allow us to just be Spiritbox, now with the resources and guidance that we have always wanted. I keep thinking I am going to wake up from some fever dream and it was all in my head.

To our fans. We are so excited to celebrate this milestone with you. We know how hard you have worked to spread the word about our band and we are so grateful for the time, energy and belief you have invested in us. We understand that with more resources comes higher expectations. We will not let you down, I promise!”

Rise Records’ Sean Heydorn added:

“We’re very excited to welcome Spiritbox to the Rise Records family and kick off this partnership with Pale Chord. The band caught our attention some time ago, and watching their exponential growth throughout an otherwise tough year for artists has been really inspiring. Despite all the band have already accomplished and done with Pale Chord, we feel it’s just the beginning.”
