Mastodon To Release Cover Of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” As A Tribute To Their Late Manager

Mastodon have announced that they will be releasing a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” as a tribute to their late manager Nick John, who sadly passed away following a battle with pancreatic cancer. The track will be available as part of this year’s Record Store Day (April 13) and proceeds will go towards the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

The band commented:

“In early September 2018, we lost one of our closest friends and our biggest fan, our manager Nick John. He was essentially the band’s Dad. From our highest highs to our lowest lows he was always there. Every single move we made went through him first as our trust in him was marrow deep. His favorite band besides us and Gojira, was Led Zeppelin.

We were asked to perform ‘Stairway to Heaven‘ at his funeral. Afterward, finding out that someone had recorded it, we figured we should record a studio version and release it on Record Store Day as a tribute to Nick with all the proceeds to be donated to pancreatic cancer research. We would not be the band we are today without the help of Nick John. We miss him dearly and think of him always. We love you buddy.

The limited edition 10-inch vinyl features the Studio Version on Side A and a Live Version on Side B. It will be available in participating independent retailers on Saturday, April 13, 2019.

All of the proceeds benefit the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.”

VLTIMAS (Ex-Morbid Angel/Mayhem, Etc.) Premiere New Song “Monolilith”

VLTIMAS, the band featuring David Vincent (ex-Morbid Angel), Rune “Blasphemer” Eriksen (ex-Mayhem), and Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy), have premiered a new song titled “Monolilith,” via The Austin Chronicle. This track is from the band’s debut album, “Something Wicked Marches In,“ which will be released on March 29. Ericksen commented:

“She is the screeching owl, the seductress of the night, the irresistable incarnation of lust and desire. She is Lilith; the icon, the Demoness. ‘Monolilith‘ is the 4th and final single from ‘Something Wicked Marches In‘ and shows a slightly different side to VLTIMAS. With its more melodic take, this track serves as a response to the more cold and brutal moments on the record. But don’t let yourself be fooled: The dark is deep and utterly captivating.”

Destruction Recruit Second Guitarist Damir Eskic

Destruction have welcomed Damir Eskic (Gomorra) to the band as their second guitarist. Eskic previously contributed three solos to the group’s 2016 album “Under Attack.”

Frontman Schmier commented:

“Yes — we finally did it again!

For many years we’ve been talking about this, but we needed the right guy! Damir Eskic is now that dude! He is a super-skilled player and also a good friend of the band. He will surely make some jaws drop and pay tribute to the history of Destruction, as he is also a fan of our music!

To be a trio was a special thing for us that we did with pride for many years but also Destruction had a period where we were a four-piece with a second guitar. Now it was the right time to get that option back!

We know there are many fans out there that have been waiting a long time for this.

We have composed and recorded the whole new album with two guitars and, of course, this will make us an even more intense live act and give us the chance to play songs again that we’ve not been able to play for many years… Exciting times ahead!

Let’s call this a reinvention!

With Randy Black on the drums and Damir Eskic on the lead guitar, we have the fresh blood in the band that is sometimes needed to reach new goals, it will keep the thrash machine strong and ready for new adventures!

See you all on the road soon. The new record is coming on August 8th via Nuclear Blast!”

Eskic added:

“I am, of course, very happy to be a part of this thrash metal family and to join one of the best bands of the genre.

To record three guest solos on the ‘Under Attack’ album was already a big deal for me, now some years later, we’ve become close friends and I am really excited to be a part of this!

I am looking forward to meeting the fans all over the globe and to thrash the stage with the boys!”
